Travis's Kindergarten Cookbook

We just got home from a VERY long trip. (I will post the trip info later, this just can't wait!!!) While we were on vacation, we picked up the last of Travis's stuff from his house. I was looking through these boxes to see what fun treasures Travis had brought home and I found a cookbook that his Kindergarten class made. I almost wet my pants it was SO Funny. I just have to share Travis's Recipe...

Strawberry Cake

15 lbs. Sugar
5 eggs
6 lbs. Flour
3 Strawberries
1 gallon milk
2 lbs vanilla
1 lbs. Salt
1 stick butter

Mix all of this in a big bowl by hand. Stir for 15 hours. It's batter when it has little strawberry polka dots. Empty it in a cake pan about 16 inches long. Grease and flour the pan. Put it in a hot oven about 16 degrees. Cook it for about 17 hours. It will be all over red. Take out of the pan and put on a flat sort of pan. Frost it with yellow, green and purple icing and red, white and blue. Make the icing with some of the batter. Write Happy Birthday on it and put candles on it. I can eat 2 pieces with strawberry ice cream.

I love my husband!! This was really cute and I must say Travis's recipe was by far the most detailed. He didn't mention how much his dad eats, or say his mom isn't a good cook like some of the kids.

If you want more recipes to try, I have some good ones for Oatmeal, and mac and Cheese. Just let me know!

Ha! THAT IS PRICELESS!! I loved that the cake has 3 strawberries in it and calls for 2 lbs of vanilla. It was so hilarious. I am still laughing out loud. I loved his directions, too. So funny!

That's hilarious! I'd suggest that if his baking skills haven't honed a bit since then you just have him buy your birthday cake when the time comes. : )

Hi! This is Travis' mom. When I read this, I realized just how observant he was at age 5. I made a lot of cakes for pay back then, and still greased and floured the pan. It was not until later I learned about pan goop to use instead. I also made a lot of cakes with the dots in it- the party cakes cake mixes. And- the part about making the icing with some of the batter? Well- that has an explanation also. About that time I had become acquainted with a local cake decorator named Marilyn McFarlin in Stillwater, OK. I still use her icing recipe to this day. It is TONS better than the Wilton recipe- ask if you want it. But, she had a method I learned from her , to decorate cookies, where you did color some of the batter, and did decorate the cookies before you baked them. They did not need decorated with frosting later. I also put them onto long bamboo sticks (kind of like skewer sticks) before I baked them. I also did put my cakes onto a flat pan, or sometimes cardboard pieces, to decorate them and to take them to the customrs. So, as I read Travis' recipe, I see things that you may not, and I think he was a mightily observant child at age 5. And, I do have a cake pan that is 16 or 17 inches long, which I used a lot back then. So, Travis, as your wife is laughing, you can feel proud that you were such an observant kid at age 5! I admit I am impressed at the things that you knew. I am not sure most other 5 year olds would have caught those things.
