Peixinho and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day
Peixinho, our little red Beta fish that we have had for about a year, woke up to a normal day! Everything seemed to be going his way. He was fed on time, and had a relatively clean bowl, when all the horror started. His little plastic bowl sprang a leak. He sat there and watched the water from his bowl leak out and spread onto the dresser, and down the sides. He started to swim lower and lower, until he way swimming sideways in order to stay in the water. "This is a Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day!" Luckly, Travis noticed the fishy smell (Remember his water was only relatively clean) coming from the room. He quickly grabbed Peixinho and took him to the kitchen, where he was transfered to a cereal bowl full of fresh water. Travis tried to fix the little bowl with some super glue. Well, Travis and Katie left to go to dinner with some friends, and Katie dropped Travis off at a meeting and went home. It was at this time that Katie noticed that Peixinho had decided to end his life. He had jumped out of the fish bowl and was laying motionless on the kitchen counter. (This was not the first suicide attemp either, last July little Peixinho attempted to take his life, but had been rescued and had not tried to take his life since.) Since gross slimy fish are not Katie's forte, she left him to be cleaned up by Travis. About 45 minutes later, Travis came home. Teagan was tucked into bed, and Katie with her nose plugged informed Travis that his beloved fish had committed suicide. To which Travis replied, "I thought he'd never die!" (We have been debating about what to do with him in our pending move...) Travis walked into the kitchen, stood over his long time friend for a moment of silence, and picked him up, only to find that Peixinho was still alive, and struggling to breath. Travis quickly jumped into action and dropped Peixinho back into the little cereal bowl. Peixinho was rather pale, and still for a while. I am sure he was thinking, "this has been a Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day!" We are happy to report that after a lot of love and understanding, Peixinho is happily swimming around with only a little black spot on his fin to show for his "Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day!"
P.S. We are still trying to figure out what to do with this forever living fish for our move. If anyone is interested, please let me know!!
